The affirmation of this ingredient as generally recognized as safe (GRAS) as a direct human food ingredient. The ingredient is used as a lubricant and release agent, as a nutrient supplement and a processing aid. Used as a stabilizer Defoaming agent comp anti-caking agent

As migratory substance from packaging materials when used as a stabilizer

 

Magnesium salt of stearic acid.

 

It is produced as a white precipitate by the addition of a solution of magnesium chloride to a solution of sodium stearate

 

May be harmful if swallowed.

 

Deaths have been caused by accidental inhilation of the baby dusting powder, conatining mangesium stearate

 

Hazardous decomposition products formed under fire conditions. - Carbon oxides, Magnesium oxide

 

The products of degradation are more toxic.

 

May cause respiratory tract irritation. Symptoms may include coughing, sore throat, labored breathing, and chest pain.

 

Ingestion: Ingestion of large oral doses may cause irritation to the gastrointestinal tract. Ingestion may also cause intestinal obstruction

 

May cause cancer based on animal test data

 

Potential Acute Health Effects:

Hazardous in case of ingestion. Slightly hazardous in case of skin contact (irritant), of eye contact (irritant), of inhalation

 

The substance may be toxic to liver, skin

 

Personal Protection:

Safety glasses. Lab coat. Dust respirator. Be sure to use an approved/certified respirator or equivalent. Gloves.
