Benzidine

(4,4′-Diaminobiphenyl)

(Compound found in food dyes)

 

 

Used to make dyes, chemicals and as a readnent and microscopy stain.

 

Benzidine is a carcinogen- HANDLE WITH EXTREME CAUTION. There may be no safe level of exposure to a cracinogen, so all contact should be reduced to the lowets possible level

 

Signs and Symptoms of Exposure: Liver injury may occur., Kidney injury may occur., Blood disorders, Nausea, Vomiting

 

Benzidine has been shown to cause bladder cancer and is a mutagen, may cause genitic changes

 

If Benzidine is spilled or leaked: Evacuate personnel and secure and control entrance to the area. It may be necessary to contain and dispose of Benzidine as a HAZARDOUS WASTE

Hand protection: Handle with gloves. Gloves must be inspected prior to use. Use proper glove removal technique (without touching glove's outer surface) to avoid skin contact with this product. Dispose of contaminated gloves after use in accordance with applicable laws and good laboratory practices

 

Eye protection: Safety glasses with side-shields

Skin and body protection: Complete suit protecting against chemicals

 

Carcinogenicity: Repeated absorption may result in bladder tumors.
